Early Times Report
Jammu, July 10: Launching a scathing attack on its arch rival BJP, the Congress today said that the Jammu and Kashmir coalition government has utterly failed to ensure a trouble-free Amarnath yatra and further maintained that worst type of situation prevailed in Jammu during the past 24 hours due to failure of government to regulate and ensure trouble-free Amarnath yatra
Former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla along with state General Secretaries in a joint statement issued here today stated that the BJP in its desperation to grab power has scarified its age old ideology to join hand with allies having conflicting interests and also has exhibited utter lack of spine to get issues taken up included in CMP which are blowing all hopes and aspirations nurtured by the people of Jammu region into smithereens.
Taking a dig upon the coalition government, the Congress leaders said the top divisional authorities should own responsibility for creating a chaotic situation in Jammu by stopping traffic on the highway. "The amaranth yatris got stranded at various places on National Highway due to the abrupt suspension of pilgrimage at 7 pm yesterday after violence erupted in various parts of valley soon after the elimination of Burhan Wani and his two associates by security forces, they said, adding, "the stranded pilgrims are facing many hardships owing to lack of proper shelter and other facilities.
They alleged as result of the rush, police stopped Amarnath-bound vehicles from Lakhampur, Kathua, Samba, Nagrota, Patnitop and Ramban which caused heavy traffic jams."Police not only stopped Amarnath pilgrims, but also Vasihnodevi pilgrims, Kashmir-bound people and locals, they lamented, and said that there was no governance seen on the ground."
Congress leaders also alleged that lack of basic facilities including on the spot registration are making things from bad to worse for pilgrims. They described the coupon system introduced by Traffic authorities a total dodging as yatris are being harassed all the way. They appealed to Governor N N Vohra who is the Chairman of the Shrine Board to look into the matter.
Congress leaders made a fervent appeal to Civil administration and the SASB to gear up their administrative machinery and provide full facilities of registration, issue of Medical certificate and comfortable stay to the visiting yatries so that they don't feel handicapped in proceeding further for darshan of holy Ice-lingam.
Besides former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla others signatories of statement included State General Secretaries Vikram Malhotra, Manmohan Singh, Manjit Singh and Faqir Nath.
