Absence of trauma facilities in peripheries costing lives: DAK | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 10: Expressing anguish over loss of lives, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that absence of trauma care facilities in peripheries is responsible for loss of lives. According to press release, president of DAK, Dr Nisar ul Hassan today said that lack of trained staff and equipment in peripheries to deal with trauma patients is costing human lives. The peripheral hospitals lack trauma specialists, anesthetists, blood banks, intensive care units which are essential to handle critically injured patients. Trauma patients have no other option but to go to tertiary care hospitals in Srinagar who most often than not die in transit. Majority of the patients who died yesterday could have been saved, if they have operated in time. Even the ambulances which were ferrying these patients are as good as trucks as they lack resuscitative equipment and trained staff. They appreciated doctors who are working tirelessly in hospitals at this time of medical emergency. DAK appeals in masses that doctors, paramedical staff and ambulances should be allowed to ply on roads so that they reach hospitals to save precious lives. |
