Omar tweets tense situation in Kashmir | | | If the Tweet of former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, on Burhan Wani's killing is taken into account Omar has proved right in the sense that the situation may assume new dimensions. Yes, the situation in Kashmir has assumed difficult scenario with the people fully responding to the call given by separatists for a three-day shutdown. The first impact of the killing of regional Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen has been on the annual yatra which commenced on July 1 and till July 8 several thousand pilgrims had performed pooja in the holy mountain cave shrine. However, this yatra has been suspended giving additional worry to the state Government and the security agencies on account of the safety of these pilgrims who are stranded at Baltal and at Pahalgam besides at various spots on Jammu Srinagar highway. The valley has witnessed series of demonstrations in which protesters have clashed with the security forces. Omar Abdullah has rightly said that Hizb commander Burhan Wani's killing will not end militancy in the Valley and asserted the political problems need a political solution. Omar Abdullah tweeted. Alas Burhan isn't the 1st to pick up the gun & won't be the last. The National Conference has always maintained that a political problem needs political solution Omar said Wani's killing is a "big news", but warned of "some tense days" ahead in the Valley. When Omar predicted tense days ahead in Kashmir following killing of Burhan Wani in an encounter with the security forces he seems to have spoken the truth that has emanated from his experience as a political leader and as former Chief Minister. He is right when he says that Burhan wani is not the first one to pick the gun noir cohe be the last boy to pick the gun. But Omar should know it that as long as Pakistan continues to support and aid militancy there may not be an early end to this menace. But Omar Abdullah is wrong when he has, in his tweet, called for political solution to the political problem. Has he forgotten a statement issued, umpteen times by his father, Dr Farooq Abdullah? Omar needs to be reminded that Dr Farooq Abdullah has announced that Kashmir can never be part of Pakistan and has added that Jammu and Kashmir state is an integral part of India. If Omar reads this statement between the lines he may shed his illusion over the need for finding a political solution to a political problem. Pakistan wants Kashmir and India is not prepared to part with the state which had acceded to India as per the Instrument of Accession signed by the last Dogra ruler, Maharaja Hari Singh, and later ratified by Sheikh Abdullah, who ruled the hearts of people for over 50 years. If Pakistan favours a political solution it should not have exported terror to Jammu and Kashmir and Islamabad should have responded favourably to New Delhi's plea for resolving all the issues through bilateral dialogue. And whenever the stage is set for the talks Pakistan, its Army, the ISI and the extremists resort to one trick or the other to derail the peace process. Where then is the scope for solving political issues through the process of dialogue? Let Omar answer this question. |
