LMD Udh books Department of Post for violation of norms 7/22/2016 10:42:05 PM Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, July 22: The field executive of Legal Metrology Department under the supervision of Assistant Controller LMD Udhampur, Jaideep Singh Sambyal conducted surprise inspection in the premises of Head Post Office Udhampur. As per press release, it was observed that the post office administration was using weighing scales which were not approved by the Legal Metrology Department hence, violating the norms under Legal Metrology Laws . The customers are charged for the parcels and speed post in proportion to their weight .The accuracy of the scales on which above mentioned articles are weighed is of utmost importance from the perspective of consumers rights under J&K consumer protection act 1987. It was found that in district Udhampur, all the branches of post offices do not use verified weighing scales which is a serious violation on the part of the Department of Posts in District Udhampur. Further the Head Post Office was found dealing in pre packaged saffron commodity with brand name KOSHUR. The Saffron packages were sold in violation of Legal Metrology (packaged commodities )rules 2011.The pre packed Saffron packages were found deficient in some mandatory declarations and 222 packages were seized on spot and the In charge of the head post office was served notice for using un verified weighing scales and selling saffron packages in violation of the laws.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
