JKCAF urges Kashmir civil society to defuse tension | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 29: Jammu and Kashmir Citizen Advisory Forum (CAF) on Friday called upon the civil society in Kashmir to come forward to defuse the present crisis in Kashmir so that Pakistan doesn't exploit the prevailing situation in Kashmir. The JKCAF held a meeting of its members here to discuss the prevailing situation in Kashmir. The meeting was presided by the Patron-in-Chief of the JKCAF Retired Justice K K Gupta. In his opening remarks the Chairman of the Forum I C Jandial said, "We appeal the civil society of Kashmir to come forward and pave the way for restoration of normalcy in Kashmir. The High Court Bar Association (HCBA) should stop talking in the language of separatists and help the civil society to cool down the tempers." He said, "We are concerned about the sufferings of Kashmiris as we know it's a handful of people who are fomenting trouble. Besides Kashmir Jammu is also suffering as both the regions are interdependent." The JKCAF members who attended the meeting included Arvind Mahjan of KC Group, Vijay Saraf, Secretary, Amar Singh Club, K K Bhakhri, retired government officer, Kiran Watal, ex Municipal Commissioner, Manish Gupta, Editor Early Times, Er C P Gupta, Advocate Rattan Lal Gupta-ex legislator, Jugal Mahajan, prominent businessman and Hira Lal Abrol, prominent businessman. The JKCAF members said, "It's not for the first time that Amarnath Yatra has been disrupted in Kashmir. It has become precedence in Kashmir that something or other happens when Yatra is on. Due to the prevailing situation in Kashmir many pilgrims have cancelled their program to visit Amarnath cave shrine. Had Amarnath Yatra passed off without any disturbance lakhs of pilgrims on way to Pahalgam and Baltal, who pass through Jammu, would have proved to be potential tourists, who could have helped business to flourish in Jammu region in peak summer months." They said, "The disturbed conditions in Kashmir have hit the economy of the Jammu region too. Kashmir has been closed for the past 21-days which has caused immense loss to the traders and businessmen in Jammu region. Most supplies to Kashmir are sent from Jammu and crores of rupees are transacted between the two regions on monthly basis. Businessmen in Kashmir owe lakhs of rupees to the traders and industrialists in Jammu. Unrest has led to maximum transactions coming to a grinding halt thus disturbing the economy." They said, "It's high time for Kashmir Civil Society to take a leap forward and make the youth understand that violence and shutdowns won't take them anywhere. Parents too have to play their role to make their wards understand that if they don't give up violence they would end up in trouble." The JKCAF members said that abnormal conditions in Kashmir have ripple effects in Jammu. "We have to maintain communal harmony at this crucial juncture and lend a helping hand to each other in the crisis." The JKCAF members reiterated that Kashmir is an integral part of India and Pakistan should stop dreaming about Kashmir. |
