Early Times Report
srinagar, July 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is likely to accord the portfolio of Minister of State (MoS) for Home affairs to one of the incumbent ministers of her cabinet in a bid to have more pacification measures on ground.
Due to the ongoing turbulence that has been taking toll in Kashmir valley since the killing of the militant commander Burhan Wani, the issues pertaining to the law and order have become more concerning for the present regime with governance taking a back seat and taming the violent mob becoming a priority.
Sources divulged that the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has been deliberating thoroughly to accord the MoS home portfolio to one of her cabinet colleagues in order to make the control mechanism most effective and pro-people on ground. According to reports, though there has not been any name that has come to fore during the insidious meeting but the idea of giving MoS Home portfolio to someone else is for sure making rounds within the power corridors of the state.
On April 4 when oath taking ceremony was held in Jammu, the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti retained two most vital portfolios to herself which were Tourism and Home Affairs. As the Home department is considered as the most subtle and serious ministry in Jammu and Kashmir due to the volatile situation that engulfs this northern state often at times, it is usually the chief minister who controls the home ministry in Jammu and Kashmir.
Furthermore, sources divulged that though the cabinet portfolio of the home affairs will remain with the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, the junior ministry of Home affairs will be given to some responsible minister in the present cabinet.
Pertinently, the union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday had a telephonic conversation with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti during which the turbulent situation prevailing in the state was discussed at threadbare. The prevailing situation according to sources was discussed during the telephonic meet but emphasis was laid to bring down the mounting anger could be found at large among the protestors in Kashmir.
Sources said that there are continuous discussions going on within the dispensation about various measures that are needed to be taken to pacify the ongoing crises in Valley due to which more than 2500 people including forces personnel have been injured while as death toll has risen to around 50. "It wouldn't be wrong if CM gives junior ministry of home affairs to someone else. This could ease out her burden and she can concentrate on things with more accuracy," sources said.
