Azad refuses to meet Tara Chand | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 29: In a major embarrassment to the senior Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Ghulam Nabi Azad refused to meet him thus sending a clear message that he is unhappy with him. Despite Tara Chand putting up at New Delhi and him (Chand) waiting in national capital for over a week, Azad refused to give appointment to Tara Chand following which he returned to Jammu. Feeling embarrassed over Azad refusing to meet him Tara Chand is now claiming that he had gone to New Delhi for his medical check-up and not to meet any senior leader. As the latest development is all set to bring Tara Chand and incumbent JKPCC president G A Mir more close, speculations are agog over futurestrategy of dissident camp of Congressmen in Jammu and Kashmir and their main target. According to the sources, Tara Chand along with his two aides had gone to New Delhi last week and stayed there till yesterday. During his weeklong stay, sources said that a number of attempts were made to meet Ghulam Nabi Azad, who refused to give time by citing his busy schedule owing to other responsibilities as Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and more particularly as Incharge general secretary for forthcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. After realizing that his political Godfather was intentionally avoiding him, Tara Chand had no option other than to return home empty handed. However, in order to avoid more embarrassment before other fellow Congressmen in the State, sources said that the former Deputy Chief Minister is now trying to control the damage by taking refuge in medical tests. Sources in Azad camp said that Tara Chand was not given time due to his closeness with G A Mir, for whom disliking of Ghulam Nabi Azad is well known in the Congress circles. As already reported earlier, the participation of G A Mir in a public rally by Tara Chand at Jourian had led to new alignments in the Congress. That development not only distanced PCC senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma from Mir but also brought the former close to Azad. |
