Riled locals protest against hospital management for denial of medicines to poor

Kishtwar Aug 3: The people along with social and political activists of Kishtwar today staged a protest against the hospital authorities for allegedly denying the medicines and other services to the people at District Hospital (DH) Kishtwar despite availability of the stock and approached the police and administration for initiating action against the Hospital authorities for callous approach of the Hospital authorities.
As per the details available with "Early Times" the attendants of patient namely Shabir Ahmed brought him at District Hospital Kishtwar on Tuesday with some injury wherein doctors and the paramedical staff on duty at District Hospital (DH) Kishtwar forced them to purchase even the 'suture and needle' from open market to stitching the wounds of the injured.
"Though sensing emergency, the attendants brought the required material from open market at that time but later took the matter with higher authorities, local said.
According to one of the attendants of Shabir Ahmed, Farooq Ahmed Tapal from Dool Kishtwar approached the senior officials of the hospital, but to his surprise the doctors even didn't talk to Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar over a telephone when the matter was taken to Deputy Commissioner.
He said that the arrogant staff even did not bother to give in written that no medicines or surgical items were available in District Hospital Kishtwar.
Further highlighting his ordeal, Farooq said instead of entering into heated arguments with hospital staffers, they (he along with others) approached Kishtwar police for registration of an FIR in this regard.
"Police yet have to register an FIR against hospital staff-- in case police and administration fails-- they will approach the court by filing a PIL in Court of Law (High Court) to seek justice for poor," said Farooq Tapal. He said that they left with no other option, but to shift the injured patient to Jammu for advance treatment.
Earlier the agitated locals held a protest outside Old DC Office Kishtwar, and later called on DC Kishtwar to appraise him about the issue. During their interaction with DC Kishtwar the delegates demanded action against the erring doctor and hospital staff beside registration of an FIR against them.
DC Kishtwar assured the people that he will look into the issue and further assured action against the guilty officials in accordance to law.
Meanwhile official sources informed the "Early Times" that DC Kishtwar in the evening summoned the doctor on duty at District Hospital Kishtwar and snubbed him for his arrogant attitude.
Kishtwar police had already register an FIR No. 146/2016 against Hospital staff and the management for denying medicines available in the hospital stock to a poor patient from Kuchhal Kishtwar.
The FIR was lodged by the police on the intervention of MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori.
