Jammu, Aug 3: In a petition seeking restraint on respondents from interfering in the affairs of the holy Machail Yatra, high court judge Tashi Rabstan today directed authorities to allow 15 persons to perform pooja at the temple situated in a house at Kishtwar.
He disposed of the petition and said if there was no resolution of pooja in the temple situated in the house of Nek Ram Manhas at Kishtwar in the minutes of the meeting held in the office of deputy commissioner, Kishtwar on August 7, 2015, respondents would allow 15 persons to perform pooja at the temple.
The court directive came in a petition filed by Serv Shakti Sevek Sanstha, seeking a restraint on respondents from interfering in the affairs of the committee in making arrangements for conducting of annual Machail Yatra and from changing its traditional route, that starts from Bhaderwah and ends at Machail in Gulabgarh (Paddar) area of Kishtwar. It was contended that the committee was interested in safeguarding the interests of Hindu community in general and devotees of Chandi Mata in particular.
It was stated that the holy mace 'is carried with a huge gathering of devotees to its final destination at Machail with resting places at various stations'. The petitioner complained of unwarranted interference by respondents in the affairs of the yatra and alleged that they were bent upon changing the traditional route and depriving the devotees of having darshan of the holy mace at various resting places en route.
The stand of the respondents was that the house of Nek Ram, where the holy mace used to have a night halt, is a congested and highly populated area and with growing number of yatries every year it had become practically inconvenient to accommodate such a huge gathering in the house of Nek Ram for performing pooja as the yatra had increased manifold.
