Despite opposition pinching Govt, ministers remain silent | | | Saqib Junaid
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Aug 11: While the security forces are facing tough time to deal with the ongoing crisis in Kashmir, ministers of the PDP have maintained silence to defend the government over the prevailing situation in the Valley. These ministers have given free hand to the opposition to slam their government which many a believe was giving tough time for the security situation to deal with the situation. "They (ministers) are completely mum. There is an impression among some people whatever the opposition parties are saying is right as the ministers have preferred complete silence leading to negative image about the party," Irshad Ahmad, who teaches in a government school said. The PDP-BJP government is under severe criticism from various quarters over handling of the present situation in the Valley. However, the ministers who used to react on every issue has maintained complete silence now. Some of the ministers have social media profiles before the present crisis and were active on social media and share their achievements. Now they do not post any messages on social media to defend the government or the party. Some also used to write articles but didn't write any articles on the present situation. "We prefer silence during the present crisis even opposition parties may provoke us to react to them," a senior PDP leader said. Another PDP leader said it was the job of these ministers to defend the government. "But it seems they are at the receiving end without speaking a single word to defend the government. It is only Chief Minister and two of the ministers who have issued some statements for the last over a month," the PDP leader said. But there are some former journalists who have joined the PDP have been defending the PDP on the social media. If one look on their posts, they are trying to defend the government and the inconveniences the continuous turmoil has brought in the state. But these people have not much reach on the social media unlike some ministers who have a huge following on the social media and would make much more difference. Ministers of these ministers have also come under sharp criticism for remaining indoors amid the unrest in the Valley without making efforts to reach out to the people to calm down the situation. The south Kashmir has remained most affected in the ongoing unrest in the Valley, where the public representatives (MLAs) had failed to make any efforts to calm down the situation after killing of Burhan Wani. Sources said they ministers didn't help the Chief Minister to defuse the tension. All these ministers and MLAs are carrying a posse of security men along with them but had failed to come out of their houses and reach out to the people so that situation was not out of control.
