| Dearth of teaching, non-teaching staff impedes working of CUJ, CUK | | Majority of posts lying vacant | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 11: The Central Universities of Kashmir and Jammu have been facing acute dearth of teaching as well as non-teaching staff, badly affecting the smooth functioning of both the institutions as well as their growth.
As per the latest data furnished by Education department, there are negligible numbers of Professors and Associate Professors in both the institutions whereas Assistant Professors have been running the show.
In Central University of Jammu (CUJ) 22 posts of Professors are sanctioned but only one professor is holding the position and remaining 21 are vacant whereas in Central University of Kashmir (CUK) the total sanctioned posts of Professors are 21 out of which six professors are on chair and rest of 15 posts are vacant.
Same is the condition of Associate Professors and in CUJ the sanctioned posts are 42 out of which 41 waiting for the eligible candidates, while as only one candidate is holding the chair and in CUK the sanctioned posts are 41 out of which three are occupied and 38 are laying vacant. The Assistant Professors in both the Central institutions have been running the show as against the 84 posts sanctioned for CUJ, 44 are in place and 40 posts are vacant while in CU Kashmir, out of 90 sanctioned posts 37 are in position and 52 are laying vacant.
The non-teaching staff in both the institutions are in respectable number as against the sanctioned 20 posts of Group-A employees, CUJ has 11 employees while nine posts are vacant and in CUK the total sanctioned posts of Group-A employees are 20 out of which seven are occupied and 13 are laying vacant.
The sanctioned posts of Group-B employees in CUJ are 31 out of which 16 are occupied and 15 are vacant while in CUK 14 posts are occupied out of 29 sanctioned posts and 15 are vacant.
Moreover in case of Group-C category posts, 63 are sanctioned for CUJ out of which 26 are filled and 37 are vacant while in CUK out of 61 sanctioned posts, 22 are vacant and 39 are occupied so far.
Sources informed that due to shortage of non-teaching staff the work in these institutions has been badly paralyzed as one Group-C employee has been manning three offices. Moreover due to failure of both the institutions to fill the posts of Professors and Associate Professor, the growth of varsities has been impacted as only few seats of Ph.Ds were being offered by the varsities in various subjects |
