Agitating Ponywallas called off stir over assurance of release of 'pending dues' | | | Early Times Report Kishtwar, Aug 11: The agitating ponywallas who are demanding pending carriage charges to the tune of approximately Rs 20 crores from Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CA&PD) Department contractors and today called off its protest after the intervention of Dy SP Headquarter Kishtwar Touseef Ahmed. Pertinently the protesting ponywallas have entered into an agreement with CA&PD to transport the govt ration to remote areas. As per agreement, the CA&PD Department has called their services to ferry ration from Patimhala village to Dachhan and its other adjoining areas which are having no road connectivity. As per the details available with "Early Times" the ponywallas engaged by the CA&PD contractors had started its strike after the contractor fails to paid them the transportation charges of food grains ferried by them from CA&PD stores." Agitating ponywallas said that the contractors have maintained that department has failed to release the carriage charges in favour of the contractors forced them to choose the agitating path. Local reports added that the ponywallas also have resisted the move of contractors to engage non local ponywallas for transportation of the food grains. As per the information available with "Early Times", Dy SP Headquarter Kishtwar today visited the venue of protest Patimhala along with Assistant Director CA&PD and the contractor where the authorities held a detailed discussion with the agitating ponywallas. After giving patience hearing to the issues raised by them, DySP Mr Ahmed took up the matter with Joint Director CA&PD Jammu as a humanitarian case and in return Jt Director assured that all the pending carriage charges will be released in next one week. He also assured them that no non local pony porters will be engaged for food grains lifting. Pertinent to mention that even CA&PD dealers in Kishtwar held three week long strike over non release of carriage commission by the department and started distribution of ration at government run depots only after intervention of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar. |
