Early Times Report

Poonch, Aug 17: People living near LoC in Balakote sector in this frontier district today observed the first anniversary of heavy cross LoC shelling/firing which resulted into tragic death of seven people and injuries to thirteen (13) others besides severe damages to houses in nearby villages on intervening night of August 15/16 last year but alleged relief to many has been denied.
Local reports said, " Atleast seven people were killed last year in the firing by Pak troops from across the border who were given only Rs 1 Lakh each as ex-gratia by the state Govt whereas they also were promised to give more Rs 4 Lakh to each victim's family besides a government Job to next to the kin and a permanent shelter."
"The 13 persons who sustained serious injuries in the unprovoked firing and were rendered almost handicapped no relief was provided to them except a meager amount of Rs 5000 each through the help of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Poonch and Red cross," the reports said, adding, "till date none has bothered about their well being."
According to victims, they were told that cases shall be submitted and shall be sent to concerned corners for formalities while as the fact remains that the files were prepared but are biting dust at Tehsil Complex for months together.
Pertinent to mention that Early Times had carried a story in this regard which had an impact and the said files were further forwarded to office of DDC Poonch for his perusal but ironically these files still are said to be gathering dust in this office better known to officers at helms.
"The shelling victim families were also promised to be provide with concrete shelters now and then by every visiting politician and leaders but nothing concrete was done in this regard so far, sources alleged. While talking to Early Times the people alleged that only fake promises were doled to them but practically nothing was materialized on the ground zero.
Meanwhile Youth Front Balakote President Zahir Khan has urged the authorities to provide a government Job to next kin of each victim family besides the pending ex gratia amount which was promised Rs 5 Lakh to each family whose members were killed but only Rs 1 Lakh was paid.
He also demanded Rs50,000 to Rs 100000/- for injured who were left handicapped.
