Omar wants PM Modi to forget Balochs, focus on Kashmir | Frustration, desperation | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's August 15 Red Fort comment on the human rights situation in the enslaved Baluchistan has rattled many in Kashmir as well as outside. PM Modi had said in unequivocal terms that India will take up the issue of human rights violations in Balochistan at all available forums and expose Pakistan. Besides, he had said the talks whenever held will be held not only with Kashmiri people but also with the people of Jammu, Ladakh and PoJK. People of Balochistan and PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan are up in arms against Pakistan and they are demanding independence from it. Balochistan has been struggling for independence since 1947 and has in the process lost thousands of lives. It wanted to join India in 1947 but couldn't as it was not contiguous to India. As for PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, the people have also been at regular intervals protesting the Pakistani domination and its moves to change the demography of these two regions, which are Indian. The last few days have witnessed massive anti-Pakistan demonstrations in these regions. That the Prime Minister Modi's comments have stung many in Kashmir and outside could be seen from what the working president of the now almost defunct NC , Omar Abdullah, has said and what the Congress leaders like former Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Salman Khurshid have said. Omar Abdullah has asked PM Modi to forget Balochistan and focus on "Kashmir violence". He should remember that while the bleeding and enslaved Balochs have been chanting Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogans and saying Namaskar Bharat, the Kashmiri separatists and the seditious crowds in Kashmir are attacking, bleeding and abusing Bharat and working for the establishment of Pakistan-like rule in the state. There is no comparison between the two movements: Pakistan has created problem in Kashmir and Balochistan is demanding independence from Pakistan. As far as the Congress leaders are concerned, they have accused the Prime Minister of diverting the nation's attention away from Kashmir. One Congress leader has said "Kashmir can't be sacrificed for Balochistan". The Left parties too have expressed also identical views. It is strange that instead of endorsing the Indian stand on Balochistan they are opposing it and speaking for the anti-nationals in Kashmir. |
