Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan on ventilators in DH Kathua | Hazardous bio-medical waste thrown in open, admin gives lame excuses | | Vinod Sharma Early Times Report
Jammu, Sep14: The administration of District Hospital Kathua appears to be least bothered about the cleanliness in the premises as hazardous bio-medical waste littered inside premises, exposed the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan campaign, pursued by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi. One can easily spot the piles of bio medical waste, scattered in nearly 20 meters area, just near the parking, adjoining of hospital's main entrance. Empty bottles, plastic carry bags, used needles, empty syringes, empty injection bottles besides other waste, littered in abundance expose the carelessness attitude of hospital administration. A half torn upside down sign board, leaning against a wall, near the garbage piles, which reads, "Cleanliness is next to God", aptly explains the tattered attitude of hospital administration towards cleanliness. The open dumping of bio-medical waste is inviting danger to the gullible patients, visiting the hospital for treatment, an official of hospital said, adding that if someone unintentionally stepped-in on infected needle, scattered here and there in abundance, his/her life would be spoiled. Amit Sharma, an attendant said, "The hospital staff throws all type of garbage in the open, which is full of bio medical waste. This waste is a threat to lives of attendants roaming in premises, sometimes for natural call in this area". He further said that foul smell also emanated from the littered garbage and it was an open disrespect of Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, started by our Prime Minister Narender Modi. An insider of Hospital said that none other than hospital staff was responsible for thrown of garbage in open as the sweepers, on instructions of hospital administration, would be throwing the bio-medical waste. "Even the dustbin placed there is almost half empty and it only reflects the careless attitude of hospital administration and staff", the insider said. There are proper guidelines to dump the biomedical wastage and one cannot throw it in open but district hospital administration is throwing these guidelines into dustbin. Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Kathua, Dr. Virender Jamwal said that the biomedical wastage, produced in the hospital was lifted time to time by Anmol health care industry Bari Brahmana. On being asked about bio-medical waste dumped in open, Dr. Jamwal said that there would be no bio-medical waste but some plastic bags and other waste. "We have taken up the matter with Town Area Committee to decompose the waste in a pit but so far they have not sent the machine to dig up a pit", he said, adding that he would once again take up the matter with CO. |
