Courtesy Sports Council authorities, MA Stadium becomes city's most stinking place | | | Nitish Bhardwaj Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 14: At a time when the nation is pondering over the Rio fiasco and the BJP led state government is claiming to promote sports activities in the state by providing better facilities to players, Maulana Azad stadium, Jammu's main sporting centre has become a huge heap of garbage-courtesy the apathy, neglect and incapability of the State Sports Council that controls the place. Tall weeds standing at the very entrance of the stadium that run all around the complex have become home to snakes speaking volumes of the failure of the officers of the Council and jeopardizing the safety of the players who come for practice in this stadium during morning and evenings. Clogged drains and complete insanitation in the stadium complex also mock at the Council authorities, who are completely indifferent towards the maintenance of the stadium and playing facilities which is their prime responsibility. Haphazard parking and rash driving inside the stadium complex is also becoming a big problem for the players and joggers. Besides the decaying and stinking surroundings, the Council authorities have failed pathetically to provide functional infrastructure to players for their training. Sources told ET that the Judo hall of the indoor complex has been locked for months after its false ceiling came off. "Rather than taking up the repairs on SOS basis, the short sighted officers of the Council locked the hall, which speaks volumes of their attitude" said a judoka, pleading not to be named. A father of a Judo Player told Early Times that unavailability of judo hall, the players are facing a lot of hardship. He expressed disappointment with the callous attitude of the department. When contacted, an official of the Council pleading anonymity blamed National Buildings Construction Company (NBCC) for causing chaos situation within the premises of MA Stadium for clogged drains and water logging. |
