BJP may grant pre-1953 status to J&K? | Warning signal! | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 14: Is the BJP contemplating pre-1953 political and constitutional status for J&K to meet the urges of separatist? What does its "moon" formulation suggest? These two are very pertinent questions which need definite answers. For, the talk of pre-1953 position and the BJP's ambiguous stand on it has created serious doubts in the minds of the people of the state, especially six million Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs in the state, who have been feeling insecure, threatened and abandoned by the BJP-led Government at the Centre. One commentator or J&K-watcher has rightly said: "If with greater Central control, the minorities are feeling deeply insecure, what will happen to them when absolute power is vested in a few?" It needs to be noted that BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav's two statements have disturbed the minorities in the state. One was his ambiguous stand on pre-1953 status demand in Kashmir and the other was his statement that the state could demand even moon, subject to the condition that everything had to be within the constitutional framework. "Anything within the framework of the Indian Constitution - let them ask, let the Indian Parliament decide" was his response when asked "can you consider the restoration of the pre-1953 status?" It was also coupled with a suggestion: "Every state in the country has freedom to ask for the moon within the four walls of the Indian Constitution" and "that is applicable to J&K situation". He said when asked "there are some who speak for azadi in Kashmir". The responses of Ram Madhav did suggest that something sinister was cooking up in New Delhi and that the BJP government at the Centre could go beyond what J&K already has. Any more political concession to J&K at the behest of the Kashmiri leadership or under the pressure of RSS would not only mar the future of the minorities in the state on a permanent basis but would also drive the state out of India. Remember, the state already has Article 370 and once New Delhi grants something more than this, the result would the independence of the state sooner than later. Indeed, the BJP is playing with fire. It is obvious that the people of Jammu and Ladakh and other oppressed minorities would be left with no other option but to rise in revolt against Delhi in case it granted pre-1953 status to J&K or semi-independence to the state. It's a critical time for them. |
