Valley unrest: Troops asked to deal firmly with those indulging in violence | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 14: in the wake of ongoing unrest in valley, the centre and the state Government have decided to deal firmly with those indulging in violence in Kashmir. As the situation has assumed alarming dimensions in the valley where during the last over two months, more than 82 people have been killed and several thousand injured additional companies of troops have been told to deal with the disturbed situation. The Army has virtually taken control of various areas in south Kashmir where violence, clashes between protesters and security forces is on peak where 100 transformers have been damaged. High places sources said that troops have been told to guard vital Government installations including transformers and Government offices and educational institutions. "Replacing security forces by troops indicates that the Government has decided to deal firmly with the saboteurs till peace was restored to the valley, they added. Sources further said, "In addition to this Army and the BSF have been directed to carry out search operations in the border villages where militants have stored arms and ammunition in pits and in damaged buildings. Meanwhile local reports from valley also added that traders, transporters and those associated with tourism have faced worst because of heavy financial losses due to ongoing unrest. They even have started pleading with the separatists to abandon their repeated calls for strike. |
