'Political enigma' still over status of Karra's resignation…? | Rejection or acceptance depends on 'content' of resignation letter... ! | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 25: Even as Tariq Hamid Karra submitted his resignation as Lok Sabha MP to the Speaker of the House a couple of days back, he continues to be the Member of the Parliament until it gets accepted. No one actually knows what content Karra chose to write in the letter submitted along with the resignation, which is going to decide whether the Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary seat gets vacated for polls or not. Sources said though Karra announced his resignation as MP nearly 10 days back on September 15 when Kashmir was witnessing unrest at its peak, he took his time and sent in the resignation over a week later, just two days back. However, there is no word from any quarter as to what is the status of his resignation nor does any one know what has he written in the resignation letter, notwithstanding the fact while announcing this big decision on September 15 he accused the party leadership of surrendering its principles and acting as a "facilitator for designs" of the RSS - the ideological mentor of the BJP - in the state. Sources said it all now depends on how Karra has drafted his resignation letter that will determine whether it would be accepted by the Speaker or not. Even if Karra while announcing it in front of media attributed this move to the failure of the governments in handling the unrest in Kashmir Valley apart from expressing his opposition to party's alliance with BJP, rejection or acceptance of resignation would be determined by what content he has drafted in the letter, sources said adding that if the letter is drafted in manner of certain conditions, no matter in a subtle manner, it may not be accepted. And if it is a straight one without any such details, the Lok Sabha Speaker has no option, rather no reasons not to accept it, sources further said while explaining why there is still no clarity over the resignation status of Karra. Pertinent to say is that Karra has not disclosed it before media as to what content he has chosen in his resignation letter. Sources further said as for the government at Centre and State, both would not like the resignation to get accepted and for this certain quarters are already at play in making the 'wind blow in that direction'. Since Karra's seat is in the account of NDA's tally, the Centre may well not like to get this count less, even though it hardly matters in terms of strength. The Centre may also not like this seat get vacated as this amounts to straight loss to its ally PDP and at the same time means political destabilization in the state. The PDP as a party would in no way like to have re election on this seat at this juncture as this is hard earned , rather a big political 'grab' from its rival NC. |
