No doctor available on Sundays in Bone & Joint Hospital Ishtiyaq Ahmad | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 25: The patients at Bone and Joint hospital Srinagar have alleged that there is hardly any doctor available to attend them in indoors on Sundays. Monzoor Ahmad father of one of the patients who brought his son in this hospital for the treatment told Early Times that on Friday his son Sabit Ahmad was admitted in Bone and joint hospital after his right arm was broken. "I brought my son here on Friday and immediately the doctors took him to Operation Theater for surgery. On Sunday morning my son complained acute pain and when I went to call the doctor I was shocked to know that none of the doctors were to see the patients in wards on Sunday," he said. Further elaborating he said, "Somehow I managed to locate the few staff members in the hospital and when I told them that my son is screaming for medical aid, they informed me that the doctors would arrive only on Monday morning," the father of the patient said. The insiders admitted that the patients, especially poor ones coming from far-flung areas of the valley had to suffer a lot of trouble on Sunday's as the medical fraternity are not available in the hospital. Another patient who was admitted in the hospital said that he was not able to sit, lie down, cough or even properly breathe because of an acute pain in the right side of his back, but unfortunately no specialist doctor was available in the hospital on Sunday. Another patient with a severe fracture in his leg had come to the hospital from Anantnag on Saturday evening with his wife, four daughters and a son. "I couldn't leave them behind as there was no one to look after them. But I couldn't get any treatment on Sunday which made my family to suffer along with me," the patient. When this reporter visited the emergency ward in the hospital on Sunday he also found that there were many patients moving about in the hospital in pain and confusion, but there was no one to help them. When contacted, Health Minister he said that he will look into the matter. "if It is true that patients are suffering badly due to the non availability of the doctors in the hospitals on Sunday's, I assure you that I will look into the matter," he said Meanwhile the officials revealed that Patients admitted in the hospitals on the weekends receive poor medical treatment, as reduced staff levels cause delay in tests and other treatment. "It is time for health care to "restructure the hospital work week" and make Saturday and Sunday just as safe for patients as any week day, officials said. |
