Security upped as sleeper cells' threat keeps police on tenterhooks | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 25: Security has been further upped in the winter capital city here as sleeper cells' threat has kept police and security agencies on tenterhooks. The security agencies are on toes and closely monitoring the situation in the backdrop of arrest of Lashkar-e-Toiba man from bordering belt of Jammu and two JeM guides helping terrorits to infiltrate in Uri Sector of Kashmir. "The situation at the moment is very sensitive but vigil is being maintained," official sources said. They said that Poonch encounter in which four militants were killed and Uri attack in which 18 soldiers attained martydom and four militants were eliminated is something to be concerning and worrying. "Young minds are being radicalised and they are being recruited and used by the militant outfits to achieve their goals," intelligence sources here said. They said culture of over ground workers (OGWs) and informers had reportedly returned to the borderding and hilly terrains of the region, adding, "in view of such activities, sleeper cells operating for their ‘aakas’ here cannot be ruled out." "There are areas and localities, which are safe and secure for such operatives to keep functioning for their bosses and providing them all information around," sources opined. "So far we do not have any specific inputs about sleeper cells but threat is there in view of prevailing situation across the region," sources said. "Alert is there as presence of sleeper cells cannot be denied and ruled out but so far no specific inputs are there," the sources added. Security had been beefed up ahead of the festive season and celebrations of navratras, Diwali, Dussehra, Ram Navmi to thwart any untoward incident.
