NC-PDP wash dirty linnen on Mehbooba's carpet | Pot calling kettle black | |
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 25: The war of words between opposition National Conference and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has just worsened as in the latest the arch rivals are fighting it out over the PDP's meeting, wherein Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is sitting on a carpet and her colleagues take seat on white sheets. "Roll call with Baji on Qaleen, rest not worthy of Qaleen. Dismal attendance of senior leaders only a handful of loyalists left -for now," posted NC spokesman Juniad Azim Mattu, alongside picture of the PDP meeting held on September 23 at Mehbooba's residence here. In the picture released by the PDP, only Muzaffar Hussain Beg and Sartaj Madani are seen sharing carpet with Mehboba, whereas other senior leaders like Naeem Akhter and AR Veeri sit on white sheet. The picture has triggered a war between the regional rivals. Another NC leader accused the PDP of resorting to discrimination with the leadership. "PDP never lets any single leader other than that belonging to the first family grow tall. For now Beg is a trusted lieutenant but none knows when his wings will be clipped again much the way it happened with erstwhile henchmen Altaf Bukhari," said Abdul Rauf a NC leader. The NC leaders said the PDP was resorting to "caste system" through discrimination in seating arrangement. "Should there be high or low caste in democratic party," asked Sageer Iqbal, a Twitterati. But the PDP strongly reacted to the NC allegations online. The PDP followers said it was pot calling kettle black. "Don't you NC walas know that your headquarter Nawae Subh has a special throne made of wood where only the Abdullaha’s sit whereas others are made to sit on the lower grounds," responded a Facebook account named "PDPForYouth." Finding the two parties fight, many netizens tried to douse the flames even as they supported Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. "You have to respect the chair. Here too she is the Boss. Moreover it is practice in Kashmir to show respect by seating the main guest/person on a different carpet," posted a netizen. Talking to Early Times, a senior PDP leader said it was shameful that NC has no respect for the female folk. "Passing such comments for a respectable woman speaks volumes of their moral degradation. We didn't use carpet for all of us as we didn't want to send a gala picture of party meeting when Kashmir is facing crises," the PDP leader said adding "NC must apologize." |
