Uri martyrs, exclusion of Jammu, Ladakh | What has happened to BJP? | |
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 25: The BJP, till March 1, 2015, used to be very vocal when it would come to Jammu and martyrs, has lost its way. Power has gone into its head. Its leadership has turned so arrogant, obstinate and insensitive that it doesn't know what it says and what impact it would have on the aggrieved people of what it says. On Friday, it was BJP spokesperson Virendra Gupta, who described the exclusion of Jammu and Ladakhi youth from the recent employment package cleared by the Government of India. The Centre had the other day sanctioned 10000 additional positions of Special Police Officers (SPOs). It was made clear that all the 10000 recruitments will be made from Kashmir and none from Jammu and Ladakh. It was the worst ever decision taken by any central government in the sense that earlier the Jammu and Ladakh were only given crumbs but this time it didn't consider even a single Jammu youth or Ladakhi youth eligible for recruitment as far as the 10000 new positions were concerned. Reacting to this exclusion of Jammu and Ladakh, Virendra Gupta reportedly said: "The decision has put the party in an embarrassing position" and "the decision was a wrongful act of appeasement done by the Centre". And on Saturday, another BJP spokesperson Brig Anil Gupta took on the Congress for its stand on the Uri martyrs - Ravi Paul and Karnail Singh. The Congress and parties like the Panthers Party had been demanding ex-gratia for the families of the Uri martyrs and had in the process exposed the BJP and its double-speak. Taking on the Congress, Anil Gupta advanced a highly outrageous and insensitive argument. He said the Congress had also not sanctioned ex-gratia for the families of the 20 Sunjwan martyrs and, hence, the Congress must stop shedding crocodile tears. "Congress ministers were in the government when a similar fidayeen attack took place at the Sunjawan military station in Jammu in 2001. In that incident, more than 20 Dogra Regiment soldiers were killed. Almost half of them belonged to Jammu province, but the Congress government didn't pay their families additional ex gratia," reportedly said Anil Gupta. "What happened to their conscience then? Where were their so-called sympathies with the bereaved families and why are they shedding crocodile tears now?" Gupta also questioned. Anil Gupta accused the Congress of playing politics over the Uri attack and Uri martyrdom of Ravi Paul and Karnail Singh. The BJP leadership needs to sit up to ponder over what it is saying failing which the outraged Jammu will ever forget. It must remember that the people of Jammu are not fool; they are keeping a close watch on all the BJP activities and cataloguing all its statements. |
