Man held for his 'provocative' statements | | | Majid Nabi Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 25: Police on Sunday arrested a man from Lal Chowk here for allegedly trying to disturb peace through his provocative anti-government statements. Kashmir Economic Alliance Deputy Chairman, Farooq Ahmad Dar from Lal Chowk for allegedly disturbing peace in the valley through his provocative statements against the government. Police sources said Farooq Ahmad Dar, president of contractors' coordination committee, was arrested by a police party from Kothibagh police station area this afternoon after he addressed a press conference at Samunder Bagh here. When contacted, Kothibagh police station SHO Rashid Malik confirmed arrest of Dar, saying he had been taken into preventive custody and his detention would be extended keeping in view the overall situation in Kashmir. "He has been arrested under the charges of breach of peace," he said. Sources said he had been police scanner during the past sometime for his anti-government and provocative statements. "Our organisation will continue to protest against the use of pellet guns and killing of protesters in Kashmir," Dar told the press conference before being detained. He also criticised the government for slapping public safety act on some protesters. |
