Jammu welcomes students, ors with open arms; Other states apprehensive | Separatists polarizing Valley leaves Kashmiris in lurch | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 28: Kashmiri students, traders and others who are scattered in different states across the country are facing the heat due to separatists polarizing the environment in Kashmir. Sources told Early Times that Kashmiri youth are facing lot of problems in other states as people are not ready to trust them. "Kashmiris are being looked upon as suspects and anti-nationals. They (Kashmiris) have to provide all the details from identity proof to their credentials even to get a room in a hotel," sources added. They said, "Since the day present unrest has engulfed Kashmir many Kashmiri youth have fled away from the Valley in search of jobs and for studies. Many businessmen have also shifted their base from Kashmir to other states. But these people are finding it hard to make the people in other states believe that they have got nothing to do with the unrest in Kashmir and they are not anti-nationals." Family members of a few Kashmiri students while talking to Early Times said, "After the disturbance broke out in Kashmir we brought our children from Valley to Jammu. Many schools gave admission to our wards without taking admission fee from us." They said, "Many people who went other states had to return empty handed as they were not entertained on one or other pretext. We are thankful to the schools in Jammu region for accommodating our children." "In fact people, majority of them curse separatists for having ruined the career of young boys and girls who were studying in schools and colleges. Jammu has welcomed the Kashmiri students with the open arms and has provided them with the shelter when they needed it most. People in Jammu know it very well that every Kashmiri is not anti-national and just a few people have ruined the reputation of Kashmiris," said an analyst. He said, "People in other states are apprehensive about Kashmiris. They fear that they (Kashmiris) are Pakistanis and don't consider India as their own country and have no respect for the soldiers who are rendering invaluable sacrifices to protect sovereignty and integrity of the country." "It's high time for Kashmiris to come forward and prove their patriotism towards the country rather than getting cowed down by the threats of a few elements who have not given them anything except death, destruction and poverty," the analyst added. A politician said, "Kashmiris cannot blame anyone for them being treated as suspects in other parts of the country. Kashmiris should realize that their future lies with India and not with Pakistan. It's India which has given them everything. When Kashmir is burning they are looking for shelter in different states across the country. One hopes they raise the banner of revolt against separatists this time around and tell them enough is enough and they cannot live in illusions anymore." |
