Law enforcing agencies fail to act against activists of mainstream parties fomenting trouble | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report srinagar, Sept 28: At a time when the state government has launched a crackdown against the separatist elements involved in stone pelting and related activities, it has failed to crack the whip against activists of mainstream parties who are also involved in such activities. Reports reaching here said that activists belonging to mainstream parties who are in opposition at present are involved in the stone pelting incidents in the different parts of Kashmir valley. These people are creating 'trouble' and the irony is that little or no action is taken against such persons. Non-action from the people at helm against such persons has increased the trouble for the common masses with no solution in sight for them. Reports said that involvement of activists of mainstream parties in stone pelting and other anti-social activities came to the fore many times with people catching hold of them. Although some of these 'trouble mongers' were 'taken to task' by the people themselves, surprisingly the law enforcing agencies failed to initiate action against them under the law. The law enforcing agencies are being influenced to release such activists of mainstream parties. Reports said that some days back the law enforcing agencies zeroed in on a group of stone pelters in a locality in North Kashmir's Baramulla district. These stone pelters were arrested, but within no time one among them was released. When the whole matter was enquired it came to the fore that the person who was released owed allegiance to the oldest regional mainstream party of the state. A local leader of the party had asked the law enforcing agencies to release his own man despite the fact he was involved in stone pelting. In the Jawahar Nagar area of summer capital of the state an activist of the leading mainstream party of the state was found involved in enforcing shutdown even during the 'relaxation' as announced by the separatists. This activist said that many of his colleagues have been entrusted with the 'responsibility' of creating trouble and exploiting the sentiments of the common masses in the name of religion and 'freedom'. During the present agitation that is almost three months old now, it has also come to the fore that 'money power' is being used by the various 'elements' so that peace and normalcy does not return to Kashmir valley. Money is being pumped like anything across the length and breadth of the valley so that there is no end to the cycle of violence and protests. It would be in place to mention here that separatists had voiced their concern over the stone pelting incidents taking place during the 'relaxation' time as announced by them over the past 80 days now. Following this it became evident that activists of opposition mainstream parties especially the leading regional mainstream party are involved in such activities. However, despite substantive proof against such people very little action has been taken against them, not to talk of booking them under relevant law. |
