Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Sept 30: The overloaded Tata Sumos and buses plying on city routes continue to irk the passengers. Overloading in Sumos has become a common scene on city roads. Although authorities claim of taking necessary steps to control overloading, yet it goes unabated along several busy routes in the city. Public transport overloaded with passengers can be seen along the routes which include Parade ground to Banwat route, Rajouri to Thanamandi. The Sumos plying on several routes are hugely overloaded with passengers hanging from outside. People from various areas said that they have to face huge inconvenience due to the overloading. "It is turning out to be a nightmare. Apart from putting the passengers to a huge inconvenience it risks peoples' lives. Overloading has become a nuisance. I wonder concern officials are not taking action against it. We have to think ten times before boarding an overloaded Sumo but there is no other option. They are all overloaded," a passenger from Loran said. The failure of Transport Department to check the menace gives a free hand to sumo operators who continue to flout rules and regulations thus putting thousands of lives at risk in District Rajouri Ironically, every year hundreds of passengers lose their precious lives due to accident caused by overloading in the private transport vehicles her Rajouri District are is known for deadly accidents in past. Hundreds of passengers were killed and thousands others wounded during the last few years. Sources in the Traffic and Transport Departments said that inadequate number of commercial vehicles and shortage of traffic regulating staff allows private transporters to indulge in overloading. The Traffic and Transport Department Rajouri has failed miserably in taking effective steps to check overloading in the border districts. The menace of overloading has put lives at risk with buses and Tata Sumo jam-packed with the passengers. The students moving to and from in the schools also prefer to board jam packed buses because they had to reach school in time. Locals appeal to DDC Rajouri to look into the matter and direct authorities to check this menace of overloading as slight negligence could prove disastrous. |
