People of J&K salutes Dogra Regiment 'ghataks' | | | Early Times Report jammu, Sept 30: No one had ever thought that Indian Army would one day cross the LoC, demolish terror camps or terror launching pads and liquidate not one or two but scores of Pakistan terrorists and at least nine Pakistan soldiers. But the Indian Army did that in the intervening night of September 28 and 29. The Indian Army proved that given an opportunity, it can do wonders and even leave behind the American and the Israeli Armies, which are known the world over for successfully launching surgical operations. That the Indian Army conducted surgical operations for four hours between 12.30 a.m. and 4.30 a.m., killed more than 40 terrorists, including Pakistani soldiers, deep inside PoJK and returned safe speak for itself. Their military feat would go down in the political and military history of India as the most outstanding event that rattled Pakistan, which can't be termed as a state in the real sense of the term. It's no wonder that these successful surgical strikes have thrilled the otherwise wounded Indian nation and filled the hearts of the Indians with new hope. It was also no wonder that the people across the country celebrated the Indian military feat and swung solidly behind the Army and the Government. Of course, the event didn't go well with the Kashmiri leaders of all hues and the Valley was, and continues to be, in a state of shock. There are people in the country, including former Army Commanders and former diplomats, who have expressed the view that there was a definite shift in the India's foreign policy vis-à-vis Pakistan and that what the Central Government did to avenge the martyrdom of 18 soldiers at the Uri Army Base Camp could be termed as an end of the 70-year-old Nehruvian policy towards Pakistan and Kashmir. There are reasons to endorse this view. However, what was very significant from the viewpoint of the Dogras of Jammu province was that those who conducted the surgical strikes also included Dogra Regiment "Ghataks". In fact, the Dogra and Bihar Regiments Ghataks conducted the operation. It is a matter of pride that the Dogras were part of the destroy-terror camps-mission and salute to the Dogra Regiment and the Dogra "Ghataks". |
