NAAC team's coming visit sends JU admin in working mode | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 30: The administration of Jammu University is more concerned about its grading than addressing genuine demands of students. Take the upcoming visit of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) team to the campus. To present a rosy picture, the administration has haphazardly renovated the central library which was in pathetic condition for last two years. "Since the NAAC announced its visit for awarding grade, the JU administration came into action and haphazardly renovated/ beautified the Dhanvantri library," said a scholar wishing anonymity. Earlier, when the students and scholars demanded renovation of the library, their pleas went unheeded. "We had repeatedly informed the administration and even chief librarian about pathetic condition of the library. The ACs were defunct, fans out of order, and even the corridor had become a dumping ground for broken chairs. But they neither removed the dumping material nor renovated the library," the scholar said. The callous approach of the varsity authorities could be gauged from the fact that all ACs in six reading halls and one scholar hall were not working till the announcement of the NAAC team visit. "But as the team made its announcement of visit, the administration haphazardly repaired all the electronic gadgets and made them functional," the scholar said. Comparing JU's central library with Kashmir University's library, another scholar said that JU needs to learn from Kashmir University administration. "Despite pleasant weather in the Valley, the ACs have been installed there and are functional. Jammu witnesses hot scorching heat coupled with humidity, but the administration has failed to maintain the ACs in JU's central library," the scholar said. "Broken chairs were dumped in the corridor, toilets were stinking and even a dustbin was kept at the place of mirror," he said. In the eleventh hour, all has been done to beautify the central library only to appease the NAAC team and for getting better grade. |
