In PIL on 'pollution-free' J&K, Div com ordered to appear in HC | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 6: In a PIL, seeking pollution-free environment in J&K, a high court division bench of Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan today directed divisional commissioner, Jammu, to remain present in the court tomorrow. After hearing the two sides, the bench took serious note on the status report filed by the divisional commissioner, saying that it is only the repetition of the one filed earlier and is devoid of any steps taken up for setting up of the solid waste management system. With these observations, the bench directed the divisional commissioner to remain present in the court on October 7. Earlier the court had directed that respondents would submit a report indicating steps taken for removal of garbage from Katra to Bhawan and solid waste dumping sites identified by the competent authority for dumping and disposal of garbage removed from the city. The respondents were also directed to apprise the court of the steps taken to ensure that such disposal 'does not in turn cause pollution and nuisance for the people residing around and in vicinity of such sites'. The divisional commissioner was directed to file the status report in this regard. |
