Is it not violation of Supreme Court orders? | Grocery shops selling acid openly | | Vinod Sharma
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 6: The acid bottles are easily available in most of the grocery shops across Jammu city in total violation of the Supreme Court directions. The state government in the month of January 2015, had issued directions to regulate the sale of acid in the state. The state Home department had impressed upon all the district magistrates, sub-divisional magistrates and Tehsildars to ensure strict compliance of the Jammu and Kashmir, the Poison (Possession and Sale) Rules, 2014. The Supreme Court had directed the states to ensure that the counter sale of acid was completely prohibited unless the seller maintained a register regarding the sale of acid. "As per the Supreme Court directions the seller has to maintain a register containing the details of the person to whom acid is sold and the quantity sold. The register shall contain the address of the persons to whom it is sold", the SC order mentioned. But in utter violation of SC directions and orders of State government, sale of acid goes on rampant in most of grocery shops of Jammu city. Rajesh Sharma of Satwari said that acid bottles could be easily available and in Rs. 70, anyone could purchase the bottles. "The shop owners are not maintaining any register of the customers, which is compulsory as per SC guidelines and there seems no prohibition of district administration also", he said. He further says that the acid is in concentrated form and is used to clean flours, toilet seats beside others. "Shine Industries Ludhiana is supplying Power All Cleaner acid in all grocery shops. Even on the one liter bottle it is mentioned that only 10 ML of acid is to dilute in 2 liters of water", Sharma said, while showing the bottle. Sandesh Kumar, another resident of Nai Basti, said that even in their locality, acid was easily available on grocery stores. "The acid is seeminly concentrated and could inflict severe burnt injuries, if it would be thrown on skin. "The miscreants can easily get the acid, if they will need it but administration is totally silent as well as grocery shop owners are openly selling it to anyone". He further said that the district administration has never taken any action or conduct raids to the suppliers and on grocery stores, which was very unfortunate. |
