Railway authorities accused of offering appointments in violation of norms | Land acquisition for Qazigund-Baramulla railway line | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 6: Major recruitment scam has surfaced in the Valley, wherein Railway authorities have been accused of providing appointments to the kith and kin of those who offered lesser land for acquisition for laying of Qazigund-Baramulla railway line while ignoring others who had parted with much larger chunk of land. Details available with Early Times reveal that in Magam tehsil of Budgam hundreds of Kanals of land was acquired during 2003 and 2004 by Railways. As per norms, people whose 75 % of total land was acquired were entitled for appointment in Railways, but in many cases these appointments are totally illegal as the Revenue officials had prepared wrong information about the land acquired. In village Aquilpora Rezwan Magam eight persons were appointed in Railways, while as some aggrieved people allege that only 10 to 15 % of their total land was acquired , but Revenue officials vide official records showed that their 80 to 85 % of land was acquired. Pertinent to mention that State Information Commission (SIC) had earlier directed the Tehsildar Magam in central Kashmir's Budgam district to reveal exact information about the amount of land acquired by Railways during construction of Rail network in several villages of Magam some years back. One Jahangir Ahmad Sheikh a resident Aqilpora Magam distric Budgam had filed an RTI application before Tehsildar Magam on 03.12.2015 for providing the information about the land acquired and thereafter District Development Commissioner Budgam was approached vide appeal dated 03.01.2016 for providing information in respect of 8 land owners as per list provided by him of total land holdings and land acquired for railway tracks in different villages. Inspite of SIC's orders the exact information is not being provided to Jahangir Ahmad Shiekh who alleges that he was not given job by the Railways as he could not bribe the then Revenue officials of his village especially the Patwari. Jahangir has appealed that CBI must investigate into this whole scam. It is worthwhile to mention here that State Vigilance Organisation had registered a case against many revenue officials, but till date no action has been taken against the illegal appointees. |
