RCS reluctant to return Attendant Sarai to GMCH | Attendants move from pillar to post for shelter | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 14: The apathy of administration of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu can be gauged from fact that it has failed to get back Attendants' Sarai from Regional Brach of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS). Moreover, attendants are running from pillar to post to get shelter. Sources told Early Times that despite repeated requests to Principal of GMCH Jammu and other officials to arrange some space for the attendants' stay nothing has moved. Anguished over the apathetic attitude of the Society the former Principal had decided to get back the Sarai from Red Cross Society Jammu and issue had been taken up with higher ups of the concern authority. "But as usual due to poor representation and indifference of the administration, the sarai continues to be in possession of the Red Cross Society. An official said the attendants who go to the sarai find its gates locked. Pertinently, the Sarai has the capacity of accommodating 150 persons and the building was constructed at a cost of Rs 3.29 Crore. After completion, the building was handed over to the IRCS for its management, which in turn had fixed Rs 50 per person per bed for general masses and Rs 30 for Below Poverty Line (BPL) category attendants and Rs 10 per person per meal. But the propose of the Sarai has been defeated, he said. Officials of GMC&H Jammu said that the Sarai was not being put to optimum use as the attendants were barely accommodated in it. Moreover, the cumbersome formalities for getting bed at Attendant Sarai have been restraining the patients from getting shelter at Attendant Sarai. The indifference of the authorities of GMc&H and the Red Cross Society force the attendants to spend the night in corridors. |
