Rodents eat head of newly born dead child at District Hospital Kishtwar | | | Asif Iqbal Naik

Kishtwar, Oct 14: In a shocking incident the rats at District Hospital Kishtwar ate up head of a prematurely born child inside Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital the previous night. As per the details available with "Early Times", Mohammad Hussain Ahanger son of Mohammad Amin resident of Guzarpul Chatroo admitted his wife in maternity ward of the hospital on 12th of October 2016 where she give birth to a premature female child. After developing some compliancy, the doctors shifted the newly born child in Neonatal Care Unit of the hospital where the child died at around midnight. The two days old dead child was later handed over to the victim who on the instance of some hospital staff kept the dead body wrapped in the cloth on a bed in ward No. 12 and he himself had to attend to his wife who was admitted in another ward. When in the morning he returned to see his dead child, he was shocked to see the delicate skin of the head of child was eaten by the rats. Coming in support of the victim, the attendants of several patients confirmed presence of large number of rats in hospital wards. One Nazir Ahmed said that he had admitted his son in the hospital for snake bite but rats gave them sleepless nights. He said that presence of large number of rats in hospital caused lot of inconvenience. Another attendant Jaffar Hussain Ganie slammed the hospital administration and blamed them for shocking incident. "This incident has sent a shocking wave among the patients and their attendants--- we feel terrified after coming to know about the incident--- hospital authorities could not shirk their responsibility" said Jaffar Ganie seeking that guilty should be punished. "Health Minister Bali Baghat visited the hospital few days back--- the hospital management instead of bringing these issues into his notice were seen appeasing the visiting minister" rued outraged Jaffer Ganie and called upon Health Minister and Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to fix the responsibility by holding inquiry. When contacted Medical Superintendent District Hospital Dr. Abdul Majeed admitted the presence of rodents in the Hospital and added that the problem exists in all major hospitals of the state including medical colleges; however said that they were making efforts to kept the rats out of hospital. He said that he had taken up the matter with Chief Medical Officer Kishtwar and regretted the incident. |
