Babus help influential people to occupy plots at Pahalgam | | | Saahil Suhail
Early Times Report Anantnag, Oct 14: At a time when the government is busy in restoring normalcy in the Valley, some top level officials of Forest, Revenue and Tourism departments are trying hard to alter the revised Pahalgam Master Plan (2014-2032) by helping influential people to take possession of some plots under the cover of 60-C gazette issued in 1944. Highly placed sources told Early Times that top officials of the three departments have recently tasked some teams to visit Pahalgam and prepare ground for carrying out demarcation. A forest official whishing not be named confirmed the development. "It appears to be sinister conspiracy, the revenue department is preparing to measure, demarcate, and allocate these ecologically sensitive plots. In an RTI reply the forest department has told me that they haven't surrendered any land in Pahalgam. The question is if these plots allotted to these people in 1944 why they couldn't take the possession during last 72 years and why now," Mushatq Pahalgami, a local activist told Early Times. He said that officers are trying to take undue advantage of current crisis but cautious residents of Pahalgam will spoil their every anti-environment design. Sources told Early Times that a number of people who have fraudulently got plots issued in their names and have taken possession of land in Pahalgam forest particularly in compartments like34, L,35a L,35b L and 36 under the cover of the gazette 60C of 1944 are trying too hard to later the revised Pahalgam Master Plan (2014-2032) by de-notifying them and ensuring the plots comes in permissible zones. "Forest Ministry and Revenue department is supporting some influential business players who want to construct huge commercial structures at Pahalgam. Despite unrest and a gazette holiday, officials and teams of both the departments surveyed Pahalgam which established the fact that a deal has been stroked at much higher level," he said and added that under Forest Act 1997, Forest land can't be allowed be non-forestry purposes. Further, the forest blocks in Pahalgam were demarcated into forest compartment in 1931 and another demarcation by department was carried out in 1965, which didn't mention or show any 60-C like plots. Locals said that now when the revised Master 2014-2032 Plan is ready to be approved, the land Mafia has come out of its hiding-holes and are waiting to pounce upon the opportunity to trade environmental sustainability of the region for petty personal gain, the pursuit of which will very quickly and inevitably lead to any disastrous situation. |
