| 8 years on, GDC Kilotran still operating from school building | | | Bijay Charak

Jammu, Oct 16: Eight years since its establishment, Government Degree College (GDC) Kilotran is still running from Government Higher Secondary School building, causing inconvenience to the students of college as well as the school. Though, Minister for Education claims to have transform education sector, the college building could not be set up in eight years, which speaks volumes about the hollowness of his claims.
A student of the college said that when the college was establish here, it hired five rooms from GHSS Kilotran to run the college smoothly but every year enrolment of the college is increasing and there are no additional rooms to accommodate the students.
"Government had acquired 79 kanal and seven marla land for college but after lapse of six years administration and higher education department could not take possession of land from the owner", they said, adding that two years back a team of Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation visited here for preparation of detailed project report of two story building and has submitted to Higher Education department but astoundingly the department rejected it and directed agency to prepare another DPR of three story building. A couple of months back, Corporation Managing Director visited the spot and said that the DPR of college complex was forwarded for approval.
Criticizing BJP- PDP coalition government, another resident of Kilotran said that due to lack of accommodation, the college continued to offer only subjects in the arts stream and has failed to introduce science stream. Eight years back the college was set up , but it remains in oblivion. |
