Malik, Mirwaiz distance themselves from Geelani, plead 'innocence' | Look towards their friends in mainstream camp to get out of jail | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 16: A few separatists, who were arrested during the ongoing unrest in Kashmir, are trying to build pressure on the government to seek their release and are even claiming that they are not the part of the protest calendar being issued by hardliners. Sources told Early Times the self styled chief of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Yasin Malik and the Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have conveyed it to the people at the helm that they are not a part of the protest calendar being issued by the Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and the company. "Geelani is not consulting anyone and he is issuing the calendar on his own," Malik and Mirwaiz are believed to have got it conveyed to the authorities. Even news reports are appearing in the section of the media which claim that separatists stand divided over issue of pro-longed hartal in Kashmir. Insiders claimed that supporters of Malik have been spreading rumours about him being unwell to attract the attention of the government. They are leaving no stone unturned to claim that Malik had no role to play in the ongoing unrest in Kashmir as he is languishing in the jail since the unrest broke out. "Geelani had told us that continuous shutdown and protests would lead to Azadi. It's him (Geelani) who has been calling the shots," sources quoted a few separatists, who were arrested during the ongoing turmoil, having revealed during questioning. Sources said that arrested separatists are trying to distance themselves from Hurriyat hawk and have put the ball in his court and are describing him as the Chief Architect of the Kashmir unrest. A Kashmir watcher while talking to Early Times said, "It seems Malik and Mirwaiz have forgotten that they are the ones who have sown the seeds of discord. It was Malik, who approached Mirwaiz and Geelani at the behest of his Pakistani handlers, and asked them to forge unity. Malik even met the lawyers, traders and transporters and asked them to be ready for the massive agitation in Kashmir. He (Malik) was the first person to call for a shutdown against the government's proposal to set up separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley. After cooling heels in the jail Malik is pleading innocence by claiming that he has got nothing to do with ongoing protests. He is the man who started it all." He said, "The Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq during the initial days of the unrest tried to score brownie points over Geelani and others. He issued hard hitting statements and was instrumental in framing the protest calendars which were issued in the beginning. He left no stone unturned to foment trouble and his supporters enforced shutdown." Sources said that Malik, Mirwaiz and a few others are sending messages to their friends in mainstream parties to get them pulled out from prisons. It's in place to mention here that just a few days ago National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah demanded that separatists should be released. On Sunday CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami joined the chorus and demanded the release of separatists, including Malik. An analyst said, "Government should not take any hasty decisions as these can prove counterproductive at a time when situation is slowly improving in Kashmir." |
