No difference between Farooq and Mir | Kashmir the mantra | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 16: There is no fundamental difference between the Congress and the NC. The difference lies only in name. Otherwise they are two sides of one and the same coin. On October 14, NC president Farooq Abdullah convened a meeting of opposition parties at his Gupkar road residence to discuss the prevailing situation and it was an all-Kashmir meeting. All the 14 leaders who attended the meeting belonged to Kashmir. They also belonged to one sect. Jammu, Ladakh, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Shiite Muslims were not part of the meeting. They were rigorously excluded. Obviously, PDP and BJP were not supposed to be there because the meeting was organized to register protest against the Mehbooba Mufti Government and the Narendra Modi Government and to extend support to Pakistan and Hurriyat. What Farooq Abdullah said after the meeting is in public domain and everyone knows that what he said was a scathing attack on India and Mehbooba Mufti Government. The most significant aspect of the meeting was that the Congress leaders, including JKPCC chief GA Mir, were in full strength. They were five out of 14 and the Congress was a party to what Farooq Abdullah said. The fact of the matter is that the Congress on October 14 gave the people of Kashmir to understand that all Kashmiri leaders were one against India and for the solution of Kashmir issue to the satisfaction of Pakistan and its Kashmir-based Hurriyat. However, not content with what the Congress, the NC and other Kashmiri leaders did for the sake of Pakistan and Hurriyat, the JKPCC organized a meeting in Srinagar for the purpose Farooq Abdullah had organized. Addressing the meeting, JKPCC chief said: "Centre must come-up with some long term and short term CBMs to restore confidence of the people rather than remaining limited to official statements only. Government of India must initiate a dialogue process with all stake holders in the State to find an amicable solution to the Kashmir issue. Central Government should start a sustainable and meaningful political dialogue with all stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the Kashmir problem, as the people of the State can no longer remain in a state of disarray for no fault of theirs". There was no difference between what Farooq said on October 14 and what Mir said on October 15. The composition of the Congress meeting was no different. Out of nearly 34 "leaders" only 4 belonged to the minority communities, Hindu and Sikh. It is no more the Indian National Congress; it is a party of one community. The question to be asked is: Why are the Congress leaders from Jammu and Ladakh silent? Why are they not speaking? Should it be taken to mean that they subscribe to the ideology of GA Mir? |
