Security tightened in wake of festival season | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Oct 25: With the festival season going on, the Udhampur police have tightened security in the city to give residents a sense of safety. The police have deployed personnel and police control room (PCR) vans at places that witness large crowds - major traffic intersections, malls and markets. All station house officers (SHOs) have been issued instructions to ensure that the PCR vans in their respective jurisdictions should go on patrolling and not simply stand outside police stations. Regular checking at railway stations, bus stands, inns is going on to and night patrolling has also been started. In view of the festival season, the city is hosting several events such as exhibitions , sales and cultural programmes . These functions have been attracting a lot of crowd to various spots in the city like Town hall, Gole market , Mukherjee bazaar , Slathia chowk , Main bazaar and near MH chowk .Also, markets have been witnessing a higher footfall due to the festive season. Residents said more police personnel can be seen on roads these days and this will definitely deter criminals. So many policemen were not seen on roads earlier, they said. "I saw deployment of police personnel's in main markets keeping a vigil in the area. This has instilled a sense of security in us during the festive season," said Bunty Sharma , a resident of main marker . The residents said they feel more secure with the presence of policemen around them."Many festivals are coming up one after the other and people are excited. This is also the time when security threats increase. I think now that the police are making their presence felt, it will boost the confidence of the people in the city," said Tarun Dhmania a local businessman . |
