Dilapidated roads causing inconvenience to people

Poonch , Oct 25: The main road connecting Mendhar town with upper Ari via Surti has been in dilapidated conditions since long causing great inconvenience to the locals while the Public Works Department seems to be in slumber the source said here today.
The 15 Km long Mendhar Surti-Upper Ari road has been in dilapidated condition since long but the public works department sub division Mendhar has shown a lackadaisical attitude to repair this road to facilitate vehicular and even pedestrian movement. The road has developed ditches and pot holes at many places making the journey in vehicles treacherous and risky.
The school going children and patients besides general public faces a lot of difficulties sources said. At many a places this road has been encroached upon by some people which also adds to the woes of the people they added.
Several people of Ari alleged that they had called on AE and XEn several times with a complaint but our pleas were not needed to said a villager in anonymity.
The road is totally in dilapidated state, and no drainage system is in work since past quite some time but the authorities have failed to even pay a visit to ascertain the damages of this vital road said another local of the area.
On this road, near Sangalda chowk there are 29 speed breakers at a stretch of less than one kilometer which are cause of worry for drivers who ply their vehicles as well as the people because these surplus speed breakers of no use but causing only trouble, said a passenger who in a daily commuter on this road, adding we have several times received injuries while travelling on this road due to these speed breakers, he added.
Some time earlier the then DC had ordered to remove them but same was not done due to reasons well known to helmsmen, source said.
Chairman Mendhar Youth Club Advocate Nadeem Rafiq Hussain Khan urged District Development Commissioner Poonch and Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) that the said road be repaired at an earliest to ease the worries of people of area he added.
