Sangeet Natak Academy stages folk dance 'Geetru' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 27: The famous folk dance 'Geetru' of the Dogra culture was staged at Model Academy in order to apprise the students about folk music and ethnic dances. According to press release, the folk dance was organized by the Sangeet Natak Academy and was coordinated by Sumeet Sharma Drama Instructor, University of Jammu who is conducting the project to safeguard the intangible and diverse Cultural traditions of India. Prof. Lalit Magotra Sahitya Academy awardee and Eminent Dogri writer was the Chief Guest, Prof. Satnam Kour Dean Student Welfare, University of Jammu was the Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries who attended the function were Dr. Adit Gupta Joint Director MIER, Mrs. Rupa Gupta Management Representative, Mr. Pramod Kumar Shrivastava, Principal and Mrs. Usha Gadoo, Vice-Principal. A mesmerizing performance was given by.Ram Ditta and his group which kept the audience spell bound. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Lalit Magotra briefed the students about the folk performance Geetru and explained that it is a dance song of Dogri Pahari region of Jammu being performed on the occasion of feasts, festivals and weddings by the rural folk parties of the region. Sumeet Sharma, Project Head while interacting with students said that folk music is dying and in order to revive this art such projects were undertaken under the theme "Taking Traditions to Schools".
