Exams on Nov 15, students yet to know paper format | CM sympathises with students, 'Birbal' unaffected | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 27: The Education Ministry is yet to take a final call over the amount of syllabus being given to the students of Class 10 and 12 of Kashmir Valley who are set to appear in the examinations on November 15 amid confusion and turmoil. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had assured the students of wide choice and relaxation in the syllabus. On October 18, Mufti had said: "We have decided to hold examinations on time, but keeping in view the difficulties faced by students, there will be relaxation in syllabus as they have not completed it yet." The Chief Minister said they would try to give every possible help to the students who had suffered academic loss during the current unrest. "We will try to hold tuition classes at government schools before examinations and request teachers to help students in preparation. We don't want a year to be wasted," she said. "We appeal to parents to cooperate in improving the situation. Schools should be opened and education should continue," she said. However, nearly two weeks since Mufti's assurance, there is no word from the Education Minister Naeem Akhtar Andrabi about the quantum of syllabus and the format of the question papers. The students at large are in a fix whether they have to prepare for the entire course or there would be some sort of relaxation given. Already the experts, parents as well as the students have been pitching for the deferment in the examination schedule, saying that till the onset of the unrest on July 8, they had completed mere 30 percent of the syllabus. The unrest period didn't allow student fraternity to study and complete the syllabus, leave alone preparing for the annual examination. However, the Education minister remained adamant in holding the exams on time, lamenting that 'time waits for none.' Meanwhile, as the date sheet is out and exams are scheduled to be held on November 15, this year, the state authorities haven't till date muttered a single word about the format of the question papers and how much students have to prepare for the exams. "We don't know will it be an objective type of question paper or not. We even do not have information about how much syllabus has been covered in question papers and how much will we have to prepare. This is clear anarchy and we have been facing the brunt since day one," a group of students from central Kashmir lamented. Meanwhile, sources within the dispensation told Early Times that despite CM's assurance of relaxation, there hasn't been a single discussion over the issue held till date. It was informed further that the minister concerned too hasn't found it necessary to put the issue in his agenda so far. Rather he preferred to issue statements to media and exhibit his stubborn attitude in pushing the student fraternity enmasse to the wall. |
