| No Mid Day meals for Govt schools in RS Pura | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 27: Children in most of the schools in Zone R. S. Pura go without Mid day meals.
The scheme was launched by the government to ensure good health and to increase enrolment of children in the schools.
The records reveal that the Mid day Meal Scheme is a programme of Government of India designed to improve the nutritional status of school-age children.
The programme supplies free lunches on working days for children in primary and upper primary classes in government, government aided, local body schools.
The objective of the scheme is to help improve the effectiveness of primary education by boosting nutritional status of primary school children.
Sources said that the children studying in most of the government schools falling within zone R. S. Pura have not been provided mid day meal for the last nearly two months hitting the basic objective of mid day meal programme.
If sources in the department are to be believed, it can be concluded that due to non availability of rationed items in various schools, the children entitled for mid day meal have been deprived of this facility without citing valid reasons.
Sources added that the ration was earlier being supplied by Consumer and Public Distribution Department to the schools and whenever approached the office of Tehsil Supply Officer R. S. Pura for getting supply of ration, the concerned school staff member has to come empty handed ostensibly indicating that there seems either no provision of issuing ration to school for midday meal or stock meant for this purpose is not available in food store, they rued.
They said that the matter was accordingly brought to the notice of Zonal Education Planning Officer R. S. Pura by some staff of affected school to intervene in the matter and solve the issue of getting ration, but no concrete solution has been made so far leaving the school children without lunch weeks together for unknown reasons.
They added that given the crippled midday meal conditions prevailing in zone R.S.Pura, the plight of different zones in other parts of various districts can be easily imagined.
Sources were at a loss to understand and apprehended whether the midday meal programme has been disbanded and if not, then why the higher authorities of the Education Department are in deep slumber and still unmoved to restore the ration supply to schools in R.S.Pura zone for providing midday meal to children entitled for the same as per the programme of the government, they demanded. |
