Marriage functions hit by heavy shelling in border villages | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 27: With people in the forward villages living under constant fear of heavy shelling from across the border, the families which had fixed marriages are perplexed as organizing traditional rituals and ceremonies have become almost impossible. Sushil Singh, a resident of Abdullian sector of RS Pura had to perform the marriage rituals of his daughter in RS Pura town, but owing to the escalating tensions, he had to shift the venue of the marriage from their native village Bega to the house of their relatives at Baaspur Bungalow, a much safer location in RS Pura tehsil. Sushil Singh said, "My family was planning to celebrate this marriage at a grand scale. We had decorated our house especially for the occasion but this cross border firing has spoiled all our plans. At the last moment, we had to shift the venue and now we are struggling to welcome the 'baraatis' and as of now, we have not received any kind of help from the administration." Further he said that shifting goods from his home to relative's place was quite troublesome for them as they had to take all the items to Baaspur Bungalow while the shelling and firing was going on. He said that the administration must help the border residents. As per the locals, number of marriages along the IB and LoC has been shifted to other places, as the months of October and November are known as "marriage season". Villages are pounded with shells, people have lost their homes, family, cattle and even paddy crops are ruined. People fail to catch the joy of marriage in these areas which is heart-rending. |
