Forest fires break out due to heavy shelling from Pakistan | | | MS Nazki
Poonch, Oct 27: Heavy shelling from across the border being witnessed along international border and Line of Control (LoC) has resulted into huge inferno in Mankote and Balakote sectors of Poonch district after dozens of mines exploded in recent heavy firing and shelling by Pakistan, the sources said here today. Sources said a massive forest fires broke out due to explosion of dozens of mines which spread over several kilometers in Balakote and Mankote forests causing extensive damage to the green forests. Pertinent to mention after the surgical strikes on launch pads in Pak Occupied Kashmir (PoK), the jittery Pakistan has resorted to unprovoked firing and heavy shelling along IB and LoC forcing the border dwellers to flee from their homes and hearths and to take shelter at safer places. Meanwhile talking to Early Times, the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mendhar Shahid Nayeem said that there have been fire incidents in Balakote and Mankote forests due to heavy shelling across the border as dozens of mines exploded. The fire has caused huge damage to forest of the region, he said. Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mendhar said that people need not to get panicky. "No doubt there is tense situation on the border but appropriate arrangements have been made by the district administration to ensure the safety of the people and their property, he assured. Referring to evacuation of border people, the SDM said, "The people who have been trapped in far flung areas close to LoC will be evacuated and shall be placed at safer places including relief camps established by district administration. Meanwhile closure of all educational institutions with in a radius of 5 kms along LoC will remain closed as a precautionary measure, a government order said. |
