| Army foils infiltration bid in Tangdhar, One jawan martyred, another injured | | | S Tahir-ul Haq

Kupwara, Oct 27: The security forces today claimed to have foiled infiltration bid near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar of Kupwara district in which one army jawan attained martyrdom and another sustained injuries while fighting with militants trying to sneak into Indian side here today.
Sharing details of successful foiling of infiltration, a top police official said, "A group of 4-5 heavily armed militants were spotted today morning in the densely forests of Tangdhar sector in north Kashmir following which the whole area was cordoned.
"The militants fired indiscriminately on troops who are on a routine basis the army was patrolling close to the fencing near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector," the police official said.
He added that the security forces retaliated promptly which triggered a fierce gun fight in which one army jawan of 6 Gardhwal Rifle attained martyrdom while another got injured.
"The prompt retaliatory action from security forces forced militants to retrieve back, the police official said.
Meanwhile Srinagar based defence spokesperson, Col Rajesh Kalia confirmed, Early Times that army has successfully foiled infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector. He however added that unfortunately one army jawan has lost his life while another got injured. He said that injured was immediately evacuated to the army hospital for advanced treatment.
"A group of 4-5 heavily armed militants were spotted today in Tangdhar sector, the militants had tried to sneak to this side of LoC after which a massive search operation was launched," said Rajesh Kalia, adding the operation is underway till the last reports came in.
