Youth jailed for stabbing traffic cop | | | Early Times Reoprt Jammu, Oct 29 (JNF): A youth, who had attacked a traffic police havaldar with a sharp-edged weapon and inflicted serious injuries on him, has been jailed for five years by first Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu, M A Chowdhary. Amarjeet Singh alias Happy, son of Prem Singh of Camp Gole Gujral, had on November 6, 2004 attacked Havaldar Suram Singh of traffic police at Bohri Chowk with a sharp-edged weapon, injuring him critically. The matter was reported to Pouni Chak police post by kiryana shop owner Parkash Chand. He told police that some locals had caught hold of the accused. The incident had taken place in front of his shop. The injured was also shifted to GMCH by locals. Police later took custody of the accused and booked him under sections 307, 332 and 325 of RPC and 4/25 of Arms Act. After hearing the APP, the court sentenced the accused to imprisonment for five years and fined him Rs 30,000 for the commission of offence under section 326 of RPC. He was fine of Rs 20,000 for the commission of offence under section 332 of RPC. He was further sentenced to undergo an imprisonment for three years and fined Rs 20,000 for the commission of offence under section 4/25 of Arms Act. All the sentences shall run concurrently, the judge said. The period of detention, if any, undergone by the convict during investigation or as undertrial would be set off under rules. In default of payment of fine, the convict would undergo further simple imprisonment for one year. Fine of Rs 60,000, if realised, would be paid as compensation to the victim in terms of section 545 of CrPC. |
