Geelani held track-II talks to safeguard family interests: JKLF leader
Where are our intellectuals today? Why don't they raise questions?'

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 29: Even as hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani's sudden move to hold talks with a 5-member delegation from New Delhi has surprised many, a senior JKLF leader, Altaf Qadri, has dropped a bombshell saying that Geelani softened his stand only to safeguard the interests of his family and not of the people of Kashmir.
Qadri, who is settled in the US, took to social media to "expose" as to what led Geelani to hold talks with the team led by veteran BJP leader and former Union minister Yashwant Sinha, when previously the hardliner had shut his doors to the All Party Delegation of Parliamentarians who knocked at his residence in August.
In a detailed post on Facebook, Qadri alleged that Geelani changed this stand not for peace in Kashmir but to strengthen fortunes for his sons and sons-in-law, who could otherwise have been snubbed by the government.
"Just a month ago, when everyone asked Geelani to talk and create a process of negotiations with India. That is how disputes are approached and finally resolved. But Mr Geelani rejected it and put in place 6 points to India. Obviously, all that was a non-starter," said Qadri, adding, "Today all of a sudden he decided to meet some Indian politicians brushing aside all past demands."
"Such things are always fishy and corruption invariably plays a significant role. Where are our intellectuals today? Why don't they raise the questions and debate? After all young boys are being killed. Is it because they think that he (Geelani) will get them killed?," Qadri asked.
"Geelani can't do what pleases to him. Here is what I doubt that Geelani's corruption or money related issues are detected by India and his son and son-in-law have been warned by India that if Geelani will not meet the Indian politicians a Pandora box will be in the public domain. Furthermore, all amount of money that you received will be prosecuted in the court of law," Qadri a former militant, said.
"He succumbed and finally met the delegation. In other words people are made to pay for his perks and privileges that he received from different quarters," the JKLF leader added.
The post has taken social media by storm in Kashmir with many questioning the integrity of Geelani and his concern for his own family, which enjoys power and influence.
"Geelani's Tehreek is focused on exploiting Kashmir and its people to mint fortunes for sons and sons-in-law, and grandchildren, most of whom live a lavish life in the national capital," said a netizen.
Last week, the 5-member team led by Sinha visited Kashmir and held detailed interactions with various sections of the society including separatists.
Interestingly last week Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq told media persons that he entertained the team from New Delhi only because Geelani, who is spearheading the agitation, wanted him to do so.
Mirwaiz said that ahead of the visit of the delegation from New Delhi Geelani told him on phone to hold talks with the delegates as the latter was also going to meet them.
