Kashmir unrest renders thousands of employed youth jobless, 'stakeholders' act as mute spectators | | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 29: The four month long Kashmir unrest has dealt a severe blow to the youth of valley who were working in the private sector. The turmoil has rendered thousands of such youth jobless and as such they are sitting idle at their home. Reports said that thousands of Kashmiri youth working in various private firms have been shown door by their employers since the situation has turned volatile in the valley. With no business to show the owners of private companies have been 'coerced' to show exit to their employees. Thousands of youth working in private cellular companies and marketing companies have been left without a job since the unrest broke out in Kashmir valley. This is resulted into a situation where thousands more have been added to the list of unemployed or under-employed youth of Kashmir valley. "The future of youth working in cellular and marketing companies is dependent on the business generated by them. Since the youth have not been able to generate revenue for their companies, owners of respective companies have shown door to their employees. Many of these youth were sole bread earners of their respective and their idleness has created problems for such families," said Sarfaraz Ahmad, a youth. Many of the youth who were discharging their duties in private educational institutions are also a worried lot these days. These youth have been denied the salary for the last three months now since the educational institutions are closed since July 1. As such the families of youth working as teachers in private educational institutions are finding it difficult to make the two ends meet. "Besides affecting the education of students the ongoing unrest has dented the employment of many youth in the education sector. The owners of most of the private educational while taking refuge of the unrest have withheld salary of their teachers. The owners have said that since they have not received fees from the students they are in no position to pay salary to their teachers," said Abdul Aziz, father of private school teacher. Interestingly, the separatist leaders of Kashmir have so far failed to utter a single word with regard to retrenchment of educated youth in the valley. Kashmir is facing huge economic losses due to the unrest and surprisingly the people who claim to be stakeholders of common masses have remained indifferent to the woes of people especially the ones who have been affected. "If the government decides to stop salary to the government employees then Kashmir economy would collapse completely. If the people at helm decide to go tough against its employees then it is quite for sure that Kashmir would go through huge financial mess. The matters would worsen if the situation does not turn normal in valley in coming days," said Imtiyaz Ahmad, a government employee. |
