Mr Yaswant, don't provoke | J&K not 'no man land' Jammu, Ladakh | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 29: Senior BJP leader and former External Affairs Minister and Finance Minister Yaswant Sinha, who, along with four others so called J&K experts and trouble-shooter in Kashmir for three long days, has made many statements which are disturbing, outrageous and objectionable. After meeting with the anti-nationals, including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, in Kashmir, he told a national news agency that "his meeting with Geelani was a pleasure" and that "New Delhi and separatists should sit across the table to discuss the Kashmir issue and resolve it". He crossed the line when he only spoke of Kashmir and the so-called Kashmiri pain and said he was very happy that he and his team could meet all the stakeholders in the state. Yaswant Sinha, who hails from Jharkhand and knows nothing about the history, geography of Jammu and Kashmir and the nature of the problem in Kashmir, virtually abused, snubbed and ridiculed Jammu and Ladakh, when he didn't even once talked about the pain and agony of these two regions, which had been at the receiving end since 1947. His interview was misleading and it sought to tell the country that Kashmir meant everything and that fulfilling its separatist and communal urges would be the same as meeting the aspirations of all in the state. As if all this was not enough to abuse Jammu and Ladakh and mislead the nation, Sinha on Friday said that his trip to the Valley had helped him understand Kashmir and what ailed Kashmir and that he would share his experience only with the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh. "His recently concluded meeting with separatist leaders in Srinagar helped him get a clearer idea of the untoward happenings in Kashmir Valley and he would be conveying his perspective to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh," he said. Who did Yaswant Sinha and his team meet with? Separatists, supporters of separatists, over ground separatists and so on. That he and histeam formed his view on the basis of his interactions with the separatists, their followers and over ground semi-separatists must be a matter of grave concern not only for the people of the state but for the whole of the country. He is not an ordinary man. He is former Foreign and Finance Minister. He is also the right hand man of Vajpayee and Advani and a man who on a number of occasions oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi's style of functioning. Whatever he says counts. The fact that Sinha named the Union home Minister Rajnath Singh did suggest that there was someone either in the South Block or in the North Block who was behind this what is being termed as track-II exercise or back-channel negotiations on Jammu and Kashmir. No one would buy their argument that they visited Kashmir on their own. Who have them the mandate to poke their nose in the state affairs. There must be something serious cooking up somewhere. Sinha and Co, or for that matter the BJP, would commit a blunder if they put all their eggs in the Kashmiri basket and ignore Jammu and Ladakh. They must not ignore the stark reality that ignoring Jammu and Ladakh and cultivating the already rather over pampered Kashmir would create more problems than resolving the existing one. Jammu and Ladakh are important factors and they have to be recognized as such. |
